Best east to west headed to the sea. Go to IMBA site for details. Fastest time I'm aware is 12hrs non stop! (was covered in WMB or MBR? some time ago). As far as campsites - we didn't bother and bivvy'd at the top of the Elan Valley - more fun but there are campsites sites dotted along the way. I've done the full fat Craven Arms to Tywyn and the std Knighton to Macc - there are loads of variations to the route TBH. Take your pick.
