Hi, im looking for some new long finger all year round, except for hardcore winter, gloves after my old gill ones eventually became shredded. Ive got a few ideas in mind including, Specialized BG Gel Long Finger Gloves - £19.99 Troy Lee Design XC Gloves - £23.99 I am open to suggestions though, so any ideas? If so id like a glove with a little bit more protection but still flexibility around the wrist, i dont really do any heavy riding so they dont need to be padded out incase of crashes. Ive got a budget of about £25, so any ideas you have will be awesome Thanks, Ben

I've got the troy lees and they're a really good fitting glove they end up short on me and don't afford any wrist protection but all told one of the most comfy and haven't stretched baggy yet either

Ye ive heard alot of good things about the troy lee's and there alot like my old gloves which had a nice feel, but like you said theres no protection on your wrist which i would like really as my wrist is battered. Still one to think about though just not sold on them yet

 Define protection for your wrist.
no glove will offer support, the most protection they will give you is from the sun. If my wrist is having a funny 5m and i have to ride, i use a 661 WristWrap (which is great!)
but gloves? i'm a 661 raji guy, super thin, airy, look good and don't have any annoying velcro on their cuff

I'm not sure what wrist protection a glove can give. I've used various Specialized BG gloves and find them good, although not that hardwearing. Try before you buy because the sizing is really small - I need XL and have normal sized hands. I've got some Gore Alp X which I really like. Comfortable, tough and well made. I've got some of their mitts too. I probably won't go back to BG gloves. Other ones I've used - 661 - badly made, poor fit, rubbish. Altura, not impressed - poor fit. Pearl Izumi - good fit, not hardwearing, well made, expensive. I ride mostly on a singlespeed so my gloves get a lot of wear hauling on the bars

I'd also concure with 661's being rubbish...they were awesome for about 3 rides before they stretched out and became unbearable

I have Fox Sidewinders. have had them a couple of years now, so they are definitely a bit worn out. Problem is i dont think they make them anymore, they are such a comfy brilliant glove that i cant bring myself to wear anything else. I will just have to wait till they fall to pieces. But if you can find them, get some!

Bought a pair of the Fox sidewinders today. Seem every bit as good as the old style. my old pair were from 1998 ! hope the new ones last as long.

The old Sidewinders were excellent, easily the best glove I ever had. They re-named them when newer models came out and called them the Holeshot. I dont if you can still get them, that was about two years ago when I saw them advertised in Stif. The Fox Inclines are pretty good.

I bought some of the new Giro Remedy gloves. Good fit, not too hot. But I got crazy dermatitis/heat rash from them. It looked like I had the pox. Thankfully 10 days later the spots have finally gone. Your results may vary. Sombrio gloves - funky but always too small. Fox - bought some unabombers 2 years back, they were cool. Knackered now and the CF knuckles have almost fallen off but I agree - fox make great gloves!

I got crazy dermatitis/heat rash from them. It looked like I had the pox. I got that from my snowboarding gloves after the last day of the season. Within the week my hands had shed most of their skin and looked in shit state, the chemist gave me some thrush cream and it cleaned up pretty damn quick. Maybe it wasn't my gloves, maybe it was that cheap hooker from behind the ticket office in Glenshee.

Had you worn the gloves before JJ? I had with these, so wondered if it was washing powder or summat. Another mate wore the same but with no probs. I did brush past someone ginger though at Glentress.....hmmmm anyway the skin shedding finished yesterday, so I do feel less of a lizard today

Yeah, they were in their second year of use and they'd been fine. The only thing that was any different that day was they got very wet, bone dry on the inside but the outside was dripping wet. Now I wont find out till next year how they are, I'll probaly take them out the loft to find they've grown a whole arm.

Weird then...maybe we just have rubbish skin

Thanks for all the replies. About my wrist: Basically its knackered because of too many sprain and strain injuries from racquet sports, so i was just wandering if there was any glove that offered a bit of support in the long rides. If not though that’s alright because its only rare that it gives me grief. The 661 wristwrap is something i will definitely consider though, Thanks Mike. Might just have to save up a little, being a poor student doesn’t give you much of a budget As for gloves the troy lee's are still an option as I have heard a lot of good reviews for them, Sombrio's look good but not sure wether they will feel good, like the idea of the fox sidewinders though but they might be a little out of budget, again money doesn’t go far being a part time shelf stacker lol.
Bit worried as well because a lot of people i have spoke to have had real problems with sizing with all different gloves and I don’t think I have a LBS with the gloves I want try on close by, anyone got any rough ideas on sizing with length and width of hand or something? Thanks again for the ideas and suggestions, keep them coming

http://www.stif.co.uk/gear/pop_up.asp?id=4046 but there is some real differences company to company. Fox for example are slightly smaller than most. different gloves suit different shapes. if you dont want to waste your money you are going to have to try them on.
