Hi Guys,

Newbie here just a couple of questions if anyone can help I'm new to Mountain Biking but raced road for a good few years and still train so no issues with my fitness.

My question I'm off to Cwmcarn tomorrow as I live in Cardiff, how many trails are there also I looked through the MTB mag and seen the Twrch Trail is this doable for a first stint my bike is a Trek EX8.

Any advice would be appreciated and if anyone would like to come along and give advice that would be good too, can also offer a lift as I have a van...

Two...one massive downhill track and one XC trail.

The XC is short and sweet with a degree of technicality which is good fun but easily doable by a 'newb'. I'd not stray onto the downhill track as you may find yourself in the back of a helicopter!

I lived in Cardiff a couple of years back and found myself at Afan Argoed most of my weekends. Much more trails on offer of a higher quality and greater length.

Cwn Carn is good and local for the Newport lot but I'd say the extra half hour in the car is worth it to get to Afan.

Thanks a lot BHB I'll do that, is that Port Talbot?

Can you give me some idea of where the best place to park is to get straight on to the trails "sorry to be a pain"

Afan is literally drive out to port talbot at the roundabout turn right and follow the MTB signs.

Cwn Carn from memory you drive up what looks like a council estate to a long car park with a cabin on the right. Just park anywhere as the trail just starts out from there!

This site has a brilliant set of resources
