Depends where you live, best to have a shakedown period first and get used to the new bike if you havent ridden for a while.

Hi there Mark

I got a pair of pedals for fathers day so i guess you were lucky

What bikes a good 1st bike.  One with wheels & brakes is a good start.  Honestly, dont worry about it untill you start riding and then you will quickly find out how good the bike is

As long as the bike is the right size, and you feel comfortable riding it, then I don't think it really matters to be honest (as long as it's not made of cheese).

Hello

Yep.. I agree, wot they sed..

It doesn't matter too much what you ride as long as it won't fall apart at the first sight of mud/rocks.  Your bike looks fine for a starter bike anyway (sorry, not meaning to sound patronising).

If you start venturing off-road properly, for example getting into trail-centre riding,  then it'd be a good idea to upgrade to some properly grippy tyres.

Other than that the rest of the bike should be fine while you're getting into it.

For what it's worth I know plenty of riders on £1.5k bikes who can't ride for toffee...

have fun!

Fairy Nuff Mark -  some beginner bikes do come with half decent treads on them.

It's usually the really, really, really cheap bikes that have tyres made of teflon..

its the point at which you start to think that a £1500 bike isn't 'good enough' because it's not a boutique brand, that you have to worry . . .

Hey Mark.  What's Cannock Chase like from a beginners point of view?  Got a friend that's new to riding and we're thinking of going somewhere for a big day out.  So far he's only really been on wide open bridlepaths.

hiya Davidian,

Yeah definately give it a go just got to take it steady till he gets used to the bike and the track its definately a tester see if its what you want to do my mate took me on the red trail " follow the dog " couple of moody hills to climb but the downhill side is well worth it just tell him to take it easy on the jumps i got a bit over confident and found that the trees have a habit of jumping out on you  LOL but its good first time round was fun its all new and exciting

How is the red thing now?

Well feck loads better since Jamie@Balfa worked his magic on the shock and fitted a spring for my weight.

I'm still only getting 5'' of travel out of it but have yet to tinker properly - it's feels faster than the Reign even with only 5'' of travel!

tis rather nice but shouldn't have cost me quite so much to get it that way...   sorry for thread hijack Mark!

If its a cheese bike you would need one made of Emmantel as the holes would make it lighter.
