Hi new forum member so apologies if this isn't the right place to post but I had a Specialized Rockhopper disk stolen yesterday from the Surrey University Campus in Guildford.

It was 19" frame, silver, brand new, hardly ridden so in really good nick. It came from Cycleworks in Guildford so has the shop sticker on the frame.  It was locked well with a good Abus lock and a bmx was left in its place...

If anyone comes across it for sale in the surrounding area please could you let me know via the forum?

 Thanks

 Andy A

Whilst in hospital the singer of my band visited me all downhearted. Some thieving scumbag  had stolen his beloved Trek (old school steel framed mountain bike). Next day got a phone call from him at around 10 in the evening. He was completely rat arsed after the local punk football team he supports won the regional cup final earlier that day. He was happy as anything as not only had his favourite team won the cup but on his return to the city to celebrate he sees some chav (here they are known as Assis) riding his bike towards him. Now the singer of my band is a pretty intimidating looking guy (even if he is pretty soft usually....apart from where Neo-Nazis are concerned) and he grabbed the bike as the guy was riding past. The guy is hurled over the handlebars and falls on his face. He  takes one look at my friend and runs off up the road with a brown stain on the back of his trousers and blood all over his nose. Karma I think it's called. Hope you get your bike back BTW.

Sorry to hear about your bike......what happened to the lock as a matter of interest?  Was it hacksawed or don't you know?

It's a real shame, i've lost two bikes in london and both of them were £1500 so i know how you feel now. From my experience I know that chances of getting it back are low but I wish you the best luck. I would just suggest for everyone, if you have a a good bike lock it with two U-shaped locks on both wheels through the frame, it's the only safe way to protect your bike.

All the best

I really don't get this, you wouldn't chain up a cash box with £1500 printed on the side to some railings, leave it for a couple hours and expect to come back and find it still there! So why do it with your pride and joy ? We can all spot a nice bike in a millisecond but unfortunately so can low life thieving scum.

There is No safeway to protect your bike.

On the subject of having bikes stolen, it never ceases to amaze me at the amount of people who leave their bikes unlocked and unattended at the Enduro events such as the Meridas...

I'm talking about people who go into the main tent to sign on or look around, and just lean their bikes up outside. It's a bike thief's heaven. No-one would bat an eyelid if someone just strolled up, hopped on the bike and rode off!

I agree with Langy - It could well be that it'll appear on Fleabay (remember to check for the individual parts too, as the theiving shite might have broken it down).

Bike theives advertising bikes are pretty easy to spot - Most of them wouldn't know an XT Chainset from their own arse so the descriptions are a bit "basic" at the least... eg.

"Mountain bike for sale, Speshalist Stumpjump, Hydrolic Disk Breaks, Rock Shocks front Shocks, Fox back shocks, Alloy wheels, XT Shimano back shifter and gears.."

 Ah, you get the jist

Good luck getting the bike back mate.

I hate to say it but this happens ALL the time at university.  But then so does rape.  All hushed up by uni authoritaaaa.

I had a Balance 450 nicked from Brunel.

There is no such thing as well locked in a university campus cycle shed.
