This is taken from our SingletrAction website:

Just been for a spin around Norwood and noticed some Unauthorised building, this is located above the fire road just above and leading in to the ladder drop.

I am not against building and good on you if you are keen enougth to have a go BUT there are rules we have to follow, we have been in negotiation with FE for several years about Norwood trails and have an agreement on what and where we can build which is very specific. If you absolutley must build in Norwood please get in touch and we can arrange for the clearing and building to take place in a suitable and useful location for you and us.

Take the current new unoficial bit of trail, although it looks fun, the builders are wasting theres and our time and annoying the FE ranger and us, because firstly it fires across a fire road which is also a public footpath, this would need a choke to slow riders down (this could be added), and secondly and more importantly it runs right through a badger set!! This is very serious and area we have been avoiding at the request of FE hence the marker tape.

PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE TO BUILD HERE, it will really piss FE off and us, the current new bit will have to be flattened we absolutely have no choice due to the Badger set. There is a line marked out down the same section which avoids the set.

Please do not build without permission, get in touch we need the help but in the right places and wee don't need the hassle of wasting our limited building time sorting this sort of stuff out. If you are responsible please do the right thing and flatten the new bit for us to save us the work, then get in touch and i will show you where you can build.

We've put this message across otherUK MTB forums because this will cause a problem for us and our relationship with FC/FE. SingletrAction have been trailbuilding at Stainburn/Norwood for 8 years, but one or two persons illegal building could undo our relationship with FC overnight, we are very worried about this, because they have been illegally building over a Badger sett, an absolute no go area, animals protected by law. If it's you, please stop and get in touch with us at www.singletraction.org.uk. There are areas in Norwood we want clearing and you can build stuff that won't be immediately destroyed by us or FC, but absolutely not in the area you have been building in, please!. If it's you, please get in touch with us and we can direct you to areas that are part of our future plans. unfortunately, your actions have sealed the fate of the ladder drop.

There's a very similar problem at Wharncliffe -  the guys I know have spent years getting approval for proper waymarked DH and XC trails.

You then find some numpty has created a double across a footpath or removed the chicane's or even just knocked down the waymarkers as being official isn't " cool" or something ... I dunno..

That'll be those yoofs who pull their pants up higher than their trousers.

Jeez....get with the program grandad.  It's clearly trousers lower than pants.  Only a square pulls the pants up higher than normal.

Call me old fashioned, but I have absolutely no desire to see spotty yoofs' undercrackers sticking out above their trousers
