I'm sodding off for a few days on the MTB soon. Will be road & off-road, so I don't think that my current set up of big fat Rampages will be too pleasurable on the tarmac sections.

So what's a good tyre for mixed terrain? I will be covering some rocky ground but won't be riding really hard and flicking the bike about loaded up with panniers.

I would say Smart Sams too. Fast on the road and OKish offroad, as long as you don't corner aggresively.

Small Block 8 might be fun as long as you do not enounter mud

They (smart sams) look ok but are the tough/durable?

I have some Conti-speed kings in the shed which are fast rolling but I wouldn't use them for touring as they puncture if you look at them funny, they are wafer thin.

Seem to be OK for me, I used them for some touring last year, and then through the winter on my commuter on forest trails.
