Looking to go abroad cycling, and am looking to hire a bike box to take my bike on the plane.

Anyone know of any companies that hire out boxes?

Or even better, is there anyone in the Berks/Bucks/Surrey/Hampshire area that would be willing to let me borrow one, for a token payment, or for several crates of beer??!!

I got mine in under a week. Alan did say that he had had a lot of orders and was low on stock, but that was about 6-7 weeks ago.
Give him a call - he was really helpful when I spoke to him.

As a last reort you could always ask your LBS for a cardboard bike box. I have transported my bikes many times in one without problems and they are free.

i am toying with that idea, though i am a little nervous about packaging my pride and joy in card! It's the fact that i am not sure how to secure the bike inside the cardboard box, whereas you can secure the bike into one position in a purpose built box.

no worries then! I'm in cornwall but sure I'll be up that way before march. Won't need it back until August either. Now you'll just need to source another! Where exactly are you?

I've got a bike bag you can borrow if you are still looking for the second bag. It has an internal frame you clamp the frame to and some cardboard over the wheels sorts that. It's been to NZ before so knows the way. Just over the downs in Wantage.
