Hello folks,

I'm new to the forum and only just got back into cycling, haven't really rode since my school days.

Was wondering if you guys could give me some info I intend to do a 150 mile trip from Essex to lincolnshire next year I have a Carrera gryphon disc spec and one of them cheap trailer from e-bay the one that looks similar to the bob, now I 17 stone in weight and will be staying on camp sites on route, will the trailer in question be OK to tow that distance and what are your thoughts on the single wheeled trailers.

Thanks in advance.

alright Den - can you link one of the ones of ebay so we can have a look.

THis is the cheapest that I know of myself and comes from a very reputable company.

Is your route on road or trail ?

Have a search on here (it's not brill) for trailers vs panniers, sure there's been a few threads from some experienced tourers.

Hello Gav,

The route will be by road only, The trailer is basically the same as the one you posted only received the trailer a few days ago and only tow it 3 miles with my treking bike which included a case of beer and a couple of bottles of wine lol, I thought it was OK but there is a really steep hill that I couldn't peddle up and had to push

 Any advise would be welcome

Thanks again.

See link below for the trailer.

Ditch the beer and move to spirits.

If you have the Ed Bikes one, it will be sturdy enough for the trip.

Never ridden with one myself, but I'm sure someone else on here has and will be able to offer advice.

Yeah I wouldn't normally carry beer just thought I would go to the shops to try it out

Once again I think the e-bay trailer is basically the same as the Ed bikes apart from the bag isn't 100% waterproof but that's not a worry as my friend who is into canoeing is giving me a dry sack so that's one problem solved

Anyone that can advise on what to pack for a 10 day camping trip and keeping it to a minimum I would appreciate also.

Thanks.

Den.

In the UK you don't need to pack much on the food front, you will be passing several shops a day, I would just carry some emergency rations and expect to buy food as and when required.

Look at http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/ for full kit list ideas, but remember the trips on there tend to be a little more on the adventurous side, so you probably won't need as much hardcore equipment, but you might want more to add a little luxury. You might want to get one of these for a decent nights sleep, if your just on UK roads I think the weight penalty is worth paying.

Thanks for the answer guys, and the advise another question my wife is diabetic any suggestion on energy drink/food that she could take that won't effect her diabetes?

Like I say only just got back into cycling a couple of months ago are these single wheel trailers better than the two wheel trailers on-road or does it not make much difference?

Thanks.

Den.

If youre useing the 2 wheeled trailer, it may be difficult to get on certain segregated Sustranns cycle paths as thee  are width restrictor bars, in place, also with the EBC trailer you may have problems negotiating the chicanes with it, why not ask your local bike shops if they have some for you to try.

Asa trailer user many years ago, they have incredible load carrying capabilites, and are usually stable, except on steep down hills.

Theyre also a talking point when stopped.
