Do I 'need' a new road bike?!

Hi

Sat at home with too much time on my hands at the moment, after a knee operation. Too many bike mags & websites have given me the itch for a new bike!

I'm mainly a mtn biker and currently have 3 mtn bikes & a Spesh S-Works CX bike (with an extra set of wheels with road tyres on). Had first op on knee last Nov (didn't fix it) and so mtn bikes have been gathering dust this year and only biking has been on the road (& strangley enjoyable!).

To have a goal to get fit before the 2nd operation, I entered the Cheddar Sportive last month. Really enjoyed it!! First time I've done a road event, and first time I've ridden 100miles in one go! Very happy with 5h40m!

I've been told 6mths rehab on the knee, and even then to go steady for the first year. So I can see next year being majority road riding. I like the idea of doing more Sportives and such and so started thinking of do I need a 'proper' road bike?

These 2 look good value (& look nice too!)

The question is, would I really notice a big differnce over my CX bike or is it just too much time browsing the internet?!

Cheers!

A roadie will be a bit lighter and a bit shorter wheelbase which will make it a tad livelier. If your budget is limited you'd feel more difference investing in a really good set of wheels and tyres for your current steed. The Planet X has been around for a while and gets good feedback. I don't know anything about the Ribble.

Get the Ribble, it has even better feedback than the PX. Yes, you do need one btw.

Not sure if you are interested but I am just about to receive a Kuota Kebel frameset which is surplus to my needs as I have already spent my insurance money on a Cervelo RS.  It is brand new and looks like this

Checking the net you can buy one of these for 1k on the nose but I would take £800 if you are interested.  You can then spend the winter getting some nice bits to bolt to it.

Just an option

Cheers

Peter

the Kebel is an excellent frame - what size?

p.s. of course you need a new road bike!

The frame is a medium, follow the link for the full geometry
