“For example, it would be great if a visitor or commuter could catch a train in Manchester, get off in Buxton and then ride straight down a cycle trail into the national park.”

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/tocs_maps/tocs/NT/details.html

Hmm, and that has nothing really to do with money, as according to the train company website:

Cycle Policy - Note

Two cycles spaces are available on all trains. Carried on a 'first come first served' basis.

So as long as there are 2 or less of you, and nobody is there before, you are ok!

Joined-up government, don't think so...

"The £1.25 million grant has to be spent by 2011. A detailed business case will be written and considered by members of the authority's services committee."

Well that's buggered it then. Most local government commitees don't appear to include anyone with any real knowledge of what's wanted/required and it'll take 'em 3 years just to agree on what's needed for the business case.

if you can afford hundreds of pounds on bike you can afford a car...still it woul be nice to go for a ride have a few beers and get the train home.

They do a bus on dartmoor every weekend which tows a trailer so you can put bikes on.
