I was on the point of replacing my bottom bracket, certain that this was the source of an annoying creak, but someone on the Bikemagic forum suggested that the pedals could be the problem so I whipped 'em off, regreased the threads and refitted them. Brilliant ! Creak no more ! However, after a few weeks the creaking reappeared so I regreased the pedals again and the creaking went away. A few weeks later, back came the creaking. This time, as well as regreasing, I also wrapped the threads in ptfe tape (the thin stretchy tape plumbers use when joining certain pipes). I am pleased to say that I remain creak free.
