Separating the olive on hope brakes

I have a new set of hope brakes and want to shorten the hose by a few inches. Watched the guide on the hope website which shows the chap split the olive up easy with a bit of fiddling with his screwdriver.

Tried the same myself and after 4 puncture wounds on my fingers I am still no closer to prising the thing apart and before long the olive is going to be totally mangled. Is there is knack to getting the thing apart?

After several wounds, giving up, not giving up, throwing my bike across the garden, trying again going through several new olives I have now become adept at this...

I found to remove yank it off using a set of pliers.

To install it again, bend it...you'd be surprised, if you gently and softly pry it open using first a screwdriver, then a set of needle nose pliers it will bend sufficiently to get it back on again.

Then use pliers to bend it back over the hose....even a hose mangled up from using crappy cable cutters.

There is a knack, and unfortunately I believe it's one that is only discovered through misery and perseverance...good luck!

Just use new ones.Getting new ones on is just as hard! Well on braided hose it is...the diameter of the hole is seemingly smaller than the diameter of the hose, you still have to push it apart to get it on.The worst attempt I made was getting the olive on after 45mins and then realising the shroud was still on the table :/

Don't bother with braided hose. Simples

But brap brap braided hose is like pimped innit
Goodridge braided hose is easy to fit, and have little yellow things for extra pimpy blingness.
