Also I checked and the original Jack-o-lanterns were made from Turnips... Americans started using Pumkins because it was easier... workshy bastards.

actually.....

it was the Irish & Scottish immigrants to the New World that started using pumpkins when they got there because (a) they're easier to carve and (b) easier to get hold of over there. Turnips weren't high on the "Let's import some lovely European food" agenda

So I suppose "what goes around comes around"
