Dear all

I am posting in the hope (!) that someone reading this has a Hope M4 front which they
could sell / part-ex to me: I need a 180PM or a 160IS. I've been caught out by
attempting to upgrade my forks from IS to PM. The only way I could use my existing 180
caliper is if I go up to a 200mm disc, which I fear would be too much for my forks. Hence
the need for either a 160IS (which would match the 180 rotor with an adaptor) or a 180PM for
direct attachement.

I would simply buy a new caliper from Hope, but that would still need a new rotor as
they have changed thinsg slighty (new fit is to 183mm!) - I know this from talking to Hope direct.

I've been keeping an eye on eBay, but only one suitable brake has come up in the last 3 months
and I missed it!

Happy to pay a fair price, and/or part-ex my exiting caliper.

Can anyone help?
cheers
Mark

I thought that the IS standard was 160, so you should be able to get a 180 adaptor

this one

Sadly no - I have a 180 caliper.

And using an adaptor increases the distance between the axle and the mounting bolts -my only options, if I wish to still use an M4 are:

- a new PM caliper and new rotor (either both 160 or both 183)

- an old 160mm IS caliper, with an adaptor and my existing rotor

- my existing IS caliper plus adaptor and a 200mm rotor.

Of these the middle one is preferable, both for cost and practical reasons.

Its a Hope M4, IS mount to fit a 180mm rotor. Its probably 5 years old, but not heavily used. It still works really well (fitted to the old forks I want to replace).

Must be the old Mono M4 caliper then at a guess think they came at a set size, whats your rear caliper ?

If its a smaller size 140/160 [as was usual with Hope] you may be able to swap them around 180 on the back and the 140/160 with an adapterand new rotor on the front.

@ XCman:

The rear is a 160mm. I had wondered if you could swap them, but since no-one I've talked to had mentioned that I'djust thought the front and rear were incompatible. Certainly that would be the simplest and cheapest option (just a new 180 rotor for the back). Are you sure they are inter-changeable like this?

Pretty certain they are the machined blocks were just made to be either 160 or 180, just need to swap hoses over, the new M4s are identical.
