They're not that noisy, you must be doing it wrong.

He is using a kitten as a tensioner.

It seems to catch on the edge of the device so its quite noisy, I will have to see how bad it is when out riding, but it seems pretty bad with the bike in the stand. Besides I need an excuse to buy a singlespeed frame.

 I miss my on-one

you've only been there 2 months and you've started bitching already !!!!!!
I didn't Wait anything like 2 months to start bitching!!! Us Pommes have a reputation to uphold. My daily commute will soon be 1.8 miles. I think I might buy a unicycle to spice up the ride

Which one have you got? The ones I use have a bar which the jockey can move left and right with, If it's a chain line issue you could look at moving the rings and sprockets around
I was told recently that POM's or POHM derives from Prisoner of Her Majesty...so the fact they call us POM's is actually the wrong way round and Aussie's are the real POMs
its one of these, to be honest it doesn't seem very good, but the prices of chain tensioners are just stupid for what they are. What is every one else using? (apart from gears)
can't see chain reaction it's been blocked at work... I use the DMR STS...bitch to change a tyre in a hurry and it has loosened a couple of times spinning my chain off but it runs ok and fairly quiet when you're not putting huge amounts of pressure on the chain, which is I guess what you're supposed to do. I'm also going to get some half links and try that instead

Just use a cheap derailleur. They give you more chain wrap than most tensioners, are cheaper and easier to adjust and it's easy to take the wheel off.
Either use the limit screws to set the position or if it's too far fit about 50cm of gear cable with the soldered end in the derailleur cable stop and the other end of the cable clamped as usual so you can set the derailleur position by turning the barrel adjuster just like with a geared bike.

Or if you can afford it the Rohlhoff tensioner is the daddy

Running the chain through a rear derailleur takes away from one of the primary reasons for having a SS, keeping it simple. The other primary reason of course is growing silly facial hair. or would that be the secondary reason? Nobody suspects the Spanish inquisition!
