Just how non tekkie is it? - Would I survive on a single speed x bike even in the woody bits?

I have seen people do it on a singlespeed and even mince about on cyclocross bikes.  I guess you could mix the two.  The course hasn't been overly technical in recent years - mostly fireroadswith only a passing nod to singletrack.

CX bike = weapon of choice. Singlespeed = not so much. There's usually quite a lot of flattish stuff that you'll suffer DEATH BY SPINNING along.
