Taken the tubeless plunge for the winter, having a set of MudX tubeless already. I thought I would try it on the relative cheap so I'm using the stans 25mm yellow rim tape (on dT5.1 rims) over the top of a run of electrical tape. Also using the stans valves and sealant. So far so good (apart from having to use a garage air line for one wheel ) they seem to be staying up.

Any advice from the BM massive will of course be ignored.

What pressures are you finding they are good at; on a narrower rim (819's) I find that they need no more than 30psi, otherwise they 'skate' a bit

Don't do the valves up too tight as the sealant glues them shut without any help from you, and keep the bike somewhere cool and out of the sunshine to slow down the drying out of the gunge.

The syringe thing makes topping up a lot easier, or get a big syringe from the vets.

Main thing is to develop the smug look as your mates puncture again (unless you split a tyre and spray yourself with stan's psunk, quite difficult to look smug at that point!).

30 psi is my usual pressure FWIW.

Had quite a few leaks in the sidewalls of the back tyre but they seem to seal once the gunk is given the chance to work.

That's the difference between 'tubeless' and 'tubeless ready' - the sidewalls ate a tad more porous.  Once sealed they should be fine.

I'm quite surprised that the stans 25mm yellow tape has worked so well on a set DT5.1 (though early days for sure) because it's a much cheaper solution than the DT swiss, working out at about £7 per wheel as opposed to the £33 for the DT swiss option. I suppose ghetto option is even cheaper,

You may have a higher risk of them 'burping' but I've not heard of anyone having issues with the Mud X's.

surely that requires high cornering speeds, not something you have to deal with too often in the east northants swamp.

Enjoy having way less flats but be prepared for a  bit of a faff if they do fail.

Mud X are tubeless ready not tubless specific which can make them an arse to seat (as are converted standard tyres). To counter this on the trail you may want to invest in one of those high pressure CO2 cartridges. These can seat a tyre quite easily and then you finish it off with a pump.

Also recommed getting a tubless tyre repair kit. Here.

I carry a tube and a slime strip (as well as a bit of plastic from a coke bottle) and find it covers me against sidewall failures as well. The slime strip is useful when you need to stick a tube in because there will often be loads of thorns in the tryre.

Other than that remember to check sealant level periodically as you will lose sealant when you puncture. Chances are you wont notice the punctures until you're out of sealant...

Mud Xs have quite a rigid carcass and can be run at very low pressures for crazy grip. I had mine down at 18psi with no problems. Not great somewhere rocky mind...
