If runnings out of the question you could always work out a little home circuit, involving press ups, sit ups, squats, dips, chins, etc etc.
Then there's always swimming.
and sex.

if you really don't like the cold/rain this season brings, get a trainer for your bike to sit on...

I was going to say a bit of the other.

I do a few press ups, chin ups, sit ups and weights, when I’m watching tele.
Good for the upper body but not aerobic.
What about a bit of a walk, or running/walking?
Swimming too is good but boring and smelly.

a quick bit of gardening?

you must have a load of leaves to move

Running will give you the most improvement for time invested but obviously is a lot harder work than cycling.

plenty of sex helps a great deal, or it does for me!!

Tom's right, for time invested I do prefer running in the dark to cycling. As much as cycling is my first love, dark rainy nights can be hazardous, whilst a 20 min - 1/2 hour run can be invigorating.
Roll on Sunday.

sloboy, invest in a wheelchair for your after sex sessions

Sloboy.
lol
If you're serious about your cycling you must try sex lying down

abstain prior to competition though, you'll wear yourself out.
or let the missus do all the work

I do abit of running too, it's becomes much easier the more often you do it. Other advantage to time invested, is that it's lot easier to just chuck your dirty gear in the wash and not have to worry about cleaning the damn bike, which does become a chore in winter.

how can running or swimming be less time consuming than cycling

Whats wrong in going for just a 3/4 of an hour cycle?

(I understand that sex may be less time consuming, but that depends on how you do it...)

wombat, 20 minutes of running does me in, but i can cycle for 3 hours and feel fine.

running's much more intense on the cv system, so i guess it does help with fitness.
all my triathalete pals claim higher heart rates on runs than on the bike.

not sure on max heart rates when engaged in bedroom antics though.

>I can cycle for 3 hours and feel fine.

try going faster then....!
try spinning at a higher RPM the whole trip out
Show/hide user stats
i ride at least 100rpm.

only problem is it's on 39x23!

Agree with Rob, Combat, for a 3/4 hour ride it means turning back after 20 mins and that doesn't get me very far. With traffic lights and speed bumps etc I've got to be out a few hours before I feel I've worked hard. A run can do it in 20mins with a higher heart rate. Tougher on the knees though.
As is sex on the carpet.
