Has anyone had experience with the seat post slipping on a MV Pro 1999, the clamp doesnt seem to grip tight enough. I've just bought the bike second hand.Any tips on making it grip?
If it needs replacing, any views on what to buy?,X-Lite or Hope seem good options.

I think when they were new people reported the occasional problem with seat post slippage.
TBH I still have a 1999 Mt Vision with the original seat post & clamp and have never experienced any problems so I don’t think its the clamp it could be that the post/seat tube diameters were fractionally variable so some worked other did not if you are not in the habit of moving the post when on a ride you could try a bolted type clamp to see if that cures the problem?

The original 'Ovation' post on my '99 MV never budged but when I tried an X-Lite post slippage started to occur. I ended up ditching the clamp for a bolt but this didn't solve anything. In the end I used a clamp off a Giant bike - no problems since.

Can't comment on Hope or X-Lite's clamps 'coz I haven't needed to try them.

Salsa clamps are very good, Hope ones are OK but the Xlite one is over complicated.

Thanks folks, I'll give it a couple more goes then if I have to,change.Will look at the options you've kindly suggested.
