Helmet Cam
Which Camcorder

I'm trying to rig up a helmet cam. I have the Bullet Cam from RF Concepts but it doesn't seem to work with my camcorder (although it does have an AV in socket). I have switched the AV in setting to 'on' but this only allows me to view images from the bullet cam in playback mode; when I try to record it switches back to the image from the viewfinder.

Can anyone recommend a camcorder that is compatible with the bullet cam? Obviously the cheaper and smaller the better.

Incidently my camcorder is a JVC GR DX100EK. If anyone has managed to get a bullet cam to work with this model I would like to know.

Cheers

I don’t know anything about the JVC camcorders but when using a helmet cam with my Sony TRV460 I need to switch it to P-Edit which is in the playback menu this gives you access to a sub menu for recording the image being shown on the LCD screen of the camcorder. It’s mostly a case of closely reading your manual and finding how you record onto your camcorder from a Video or TV and that’s going to be how you will record the helmet cam input.
Hope this is of help, sadly the Sony TRV460 is neither very cheap or small (it used HI8 tapes) TBH camcorders with AV in not “Digital In” are not normally at the cheap end of the market.
out of curiosity, how much was the camera ?

The bullet cam is £88 plus vat.

On the recording from tv front I'm still scouring the manual for this nugget. From what I've heard, any camera with AV in should be able to do this but I'm trying to find the right combination of settings without a lot of luck.

I'll study the playback menus again for anything resembling p-edit but any other advice gratefully accepted.

Thanks

When I looked up the spec on your camcorder I found reference to DV in but not AV in.
Though I am sure if you have the actual camera you will know if it has AV in or not.

IT LIVES!!!

Turned out it was a case OF RTFM! Didn't have a manual at the time but managed to download one off the internet.

Everything now works great so will never miss Brian falling into the river again!

Thanks anyway for your help.
