I have to get a ferry to get top work as I live on the Isle of Wight. I have rust appearing on my disks from the saltwater spray, it is not on the braking surface but it is on every other area of the disk. I have taken it off using a wire brush on my dremel but it comes back after only a couple of journeys across the water. The front is the worst affected but it is on the rear as well. Is this anything to worry about? Or should I just keep clearing it off every week or so? Mono M4 front and Mono Mini rear if that makes a difference
Well it's not coming from the disc as it is made from stainless steel and therefore doesn't rust. It may be from the pads. I've noticed that if I store my bike for a long time without riding it I get some marks on the disc from the pads. Seawater spray may increase this.
unforunatly stainless steel doesn't rust but its also hard to get stainless steel without impurities in it which DOES rust so i think you may have to live with it
Thought about it Giles, and I did pick up an old Cindercone cheap a few months ago, but I gave it to my mum as it as a better fit for her. On the lookout for something cheap but not too nasty, I only paid £100 for the 'cone so I am willing to wait. Besides Union street is quite steep and leaving braking to the last minute is a bloody good laugh! :)
