right after some conflicting reports of the actual material used to make xtr chainrings, ive decided to start a thread to try and work out if there worth the money or not.
being a time rich type of person i read all the normal major mtb related bike mags on sale, so i know what theve got to say about them, but what i'm interested in is what you the bm massive think of them.
without being rude i'd be greatful if the responses to this thread were from people who either own xtr chainrings or have had substatial use from them.

Hollowtech 1 26/36/48. The Shimano Bible says they're 7075 (XT are just 'aluminium'). The wife has been using them on her race bike since 98. Not exactly intensive use I know but there are no signs of wear.

Yes, they are indeed nadeof cheese, still a great crankset though, when the cheeserings wear out replace them with middleburn like these

luke-I just started a similar thread myself-look below..some people say they are utter crap others think they are the best thing since sliced..er..cheese. Oops, sorry I see you only wanted to here from those owning them...

I thought you'd replaced XT rings with Middleburn ABJ. You've only had the XTR for a few weeks - give 'em a chance. Survived another downhill then :)

You can't replace XTR with Middleburn, unique BCD thus far.

But no, I don't think they're made of cheese, I've never changed one.

Middleburn for XTR960 here.

Oh and yes I do use Shimano rings, the wear/shifting ratio is fine IMO.

Bugger, didn't think they did them yet!

I'll replace mine with XTR, but then I got 4 years out of all 3 rings on my old XTR chainset.
