My friends just offered me a clifcat mx-4 with avalanche remote rear shock. I was jsut wondering without knackering the frame whats the biggest i can huck it without ruining it.
Ok im a fairly good rider. I ride extremely fast and will be using saint hubs and sun double wide rims as long as shimano bring out a hub with 160mm spacing. My landings are normally to completely flat hardpacked soil or concrete. I will obviously be using big tubes and 2.7 inch tires. Basically i intend to build it up as a short travel north shore freeride rig.
The key question is "how good are you?". Rider A could bust a frame going off a kerb, rider B could successfully ride the same frame off a first-floor balcony. Although obviously not after Rider A had had his go.
Top trials boys can do 15ft to flat on rigid bikes, so in theory, at least that.
True i consisder myself fairly good im not going to be doing anything over the 10ft mark at the moment. So as long as its not going to bottom out doing that i should be fine. For safety i will be running 6 inches up front as i normally land on the front a milisecond before the back so i expect a trusty pair of marzocchis to soak up most of the impact.
ask the previous owner what's the biggest drop they hucked from, then wonder if you really want the frame if they say silly numbers, also have a look at the bikes intended use on www.clifcat.com, then make a decision.
