I was out riding this morning and I kept getting a clicking noise and it was the spokes rubbing on the caliper. This was happening even more so under braking pressure (increased flex??). As some of you may have seen I have got the xero wheelset which doesnt have many spokes. However the wheel is true it just seems the spokes run too close, this was happening with the original mph3 caliper but to a lesser extent.
Do hubs come in different widths? Any ideas why this is happening, would an upgrade to a better set i.e. shimano/hope hubs and mavic rims be better and give more clearance between spokes and caliper.
Where is the best place to buy some from, or has anyone got any for sale on here that i could buy for general xc use.
Anyone had similar problems, is this something giant should sort out?
On the 2005 XTC 3 the clearance between the caliper and spokes is tight, but you should have some clearance. They should not be catching.
I had a problem with loose spokes on the front wheel. This caused the wheel to flex and the spokes snagged on the caliper. This fired me over the handle bars. I was not impressed.
My local bike shop sorted this out and increased the gap between the caliper and the spokes.
my friend jon had an old style xtc and had the same problem with his the MPH calipers catching the spokes on his afer market xero wheel set too the caliper of the mph are huge apparently it hsa something to do with the americans liking to be differant. he tried my deore 717 wheel it did the same as too my hope xc 717 combo.. i would like to be able to help more but he found the cure... a new bike ;-)
