Just bought a new Marin frame with four to six inch travel and a Fox RP3 shock. The media said it has on the fly travel adjustment but, as far as I can see, altering from one length to another creates a need to adjust shock pressure for correct sag - not quite on the fly! Is this correct or am I missing something? Don't really have a problem - seems to offer an opportunity for a rest from time to time.
Whatever the answer, it seems to be a superb plush feeling frame (but then most things were going to be after my old Trek Fuel).
The frame is designed so that the one pressure in the shock works for all travel settings. Something to do with leverage ratios I belive. I never changed the pressure in my TARA frame for the short time I had it. Still not on the fly though, cos you do have to get off.
DLC has it there. One of my ride group has one, and it is a case of stop at the top of a big DH and tweak it, then retweak for a climb. No different to tweaking the travel on my forks.
Yes, they're supposed to run the same pressure in all settings (it's Travel And Rate Adjustment). Whether you find that this actually works is another question ;-) Personally every time I've ridden one (or a Whyte 46, which has the same system) I've ended up leaving it in 6in mode - it doesn't seem to go up hills any less well.
