Hi All, I have decided to pop down to do the Evans cycles montly rides that it organises. This weekends ride is at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park somewhere down the A3. Having never been there I am unsure about exactly what the trail surfaces will be like but on the country parks website, it does appear to have designated MTB trails. Has anyone been/going and know the terrain and therefore what type of tyre to chuck on? I am aware weather could be a factor. Ta
My regular ride, just make sure yo have tyres that work (for you that is)on exposed roots, can be very slippery when damp, expect trail to be interupted by chalky surfaces at times, like ice when damp, when dry trail is fast a offers plenty of grip, sadly some of the best bits of the trail has been closed for forestry work lately, trail is short but can be quite intence if you time yourself, you can also pickup the southdowns trail from there for a longer ride, be sure to visit the cafe, nice toasted sarnies.
weekend before last the entire bloody advanced trail was like ice, had to pick my way round so badly, thats the bits which weren't closed! QECP needs some investment for cycling, and somebody who rides working in the gift shop/visitor centre
Just stick a set of tyres on and don't worry about it, just bloody ride!
Man, why do people worry so much about the correct tyre for this, and the right one for that... Buy a good all rounder (Conti Vert pro are my favourite) and ride them everywhere till they wear out, then buy some more...
thats a fair point Welsh idiot, I know exactly where you are coming from. I used to just use the stock tyres on my bike, putting up with any issues, lack of grip, high rolling resistance and mud clogging whenever this did occur. That was until I witnessed other tyres in action and realised mine were pretty rubbish as an all rounder. Maybe I am being too fussy about an exact tyre and it is probably the fact I need to get equipeed with an all rounder that does as it says!
