I have an Aheadset at the moment which has given up the ghost after 400 miles.

I have heard that Chris Kings headsets are good but are they worth the money do they last ?

Are there any other headsets that are any good?

Any advice greatly appearchiated

are they of better construction than their QR system?

Also what sort of barings do they use is it like a cartridge system?

fsa's last and are easy to fit, replace bearings and remove

cane creek unsealed are fine packed with rock n' roll supercoat

a seriously good headset is the fsa orbit extreme.
but i would go chris king. they really are that good. have a look about. can be found 2nd hand for 50. a blue one on stw if thats any good

I'd go for a Hope too. I've had 2 of 'em and they were both excellent. Funnily enough I serviced mine for the first time in 15 months tonight. The grease had discoloured slightly but all was fine.

They come with a Hed Doctor which replaces the start fangled nut and are really, really well sealed.

Nah, I had one of their original ones (virtually the same design) on a bike about 5 years ago, which I then sold after nearly 3 years of use when I switched back from sussers to hardtail. Then when I bought my Cotic about 18 months ago I had one fitted as an option with the frame.

To be honest, having stripped and cleaned it earlier it still looked almost new inside - can't say fairer than that.

If you've got the money then go for a Chris King. They are by far the best headset out there and will outlast a good few bikes! They are definitely worth the extra outlay as they will probably save you money in the long term.

If your budget won't stretch that far, then, as a few people have said already, go for a Hope headset - They're excellent quality and very durable

do all bike use a 1 1/8 size?

or more importantly does a kona dawg primo?

looked at relivant websites and all they say is aheadset

99% of bikes are 1 & 1/8", those that aren't are 1.5", but they're huge bloody downhill and jump bikes.

98% of bikes are 1 1/8". Some older ones are 1", but very few now.

FSA XL2's are what your after, Chris king 99% quality, 5year warranty, sealed replaceable bearings and was on Merlin for £20.

King, only if your prepared to move it from bike to bike as you get new ones.

Which isn't exactly a hardship.

And everyone's not raving about them, so I'm gonna say stick with a King!

They come in every pretty colour ever too, I have a blue one, a black one, and a pewter one!
