'ello peeps, i'm lookin to buy some better forks for my 2002 spesh enduro. Max budget around £ 350, prepared to swap brakes for IS mount if suspension performance is much better and can still come in on price. Most of my riding is in Thetford area but do visit Peak and S.Downs.
Short list currently considering:
Fox Vanilla Manitou Minutes Marzocchi Marathon XC. (Prefer forks to be black so missus doesn't notice i've been spending again!) Any comments or other forks I should consider.
i nearly got revelations for my '03 one, but went for the pikes as they're cheaper on CRC and not much longer. mine had 130mm forks before though so they're not too much longer. don't know if rockshox do black though!
I have the new Fox Float 120RL's in black on my Stumpjumper FSR and they're fantastic - tough to find for £350 though. Also Rockshox Reba Team's in black are very good for the money, light, very durable and within budget if you shop around - especially good with the Poploc.
I've got rev's on my '03 enduro, they were made for each other! The steering is perfect and the suspension has a sort of equilibrium, front and rear behave in much the same way and in harmony.
God doesn't that sound mushy! *Sticks fingers in throat* Lol!
rockshox pikes 426 u-turn in black.I fitted a set to my Giant vt and transformed the bike.SUPER plush with umpteen features but only useful if you have a 20mm axle, cant rec them enough.
I've got 05 marathon xcs (gunmetal grey) on my 02 enduro and love them - for me the travel lock-down feature won out over the U-Turn for lowering the front end for climbing, plus the 5-way TST works very well on the move. The extra crown-to-axle height raises the bb and slackens the head angle slightly too, which i see as an advantage. I paid around £280 as a US import, after all import taxes/VAT etc.
Have reba teams on my hardtail and i must admit they're a bit stiffer than the marathons (though not as plush).
