I've seen quite a few posts over the past wee while recommending Kenda blue groove and nevigal tyres.
I've tried looking at the usual suspects and via the Kenda UK website but I can't seem to find anyone that sells both of these tyres online. Does anyone know where you can get them (I live in Scotland, so getting them from a shop is a bit of a non-starter)?
Also, are they the right thing for general XC, epic rides? Some of the info seems to point to them being freeride type tyres.
Finally, any other recommendations instead of Kendas (something a bit easier to get hold of). I'm runnning Panaracer Cinders at the mo and I'm not overly impressed.
I have used the kenda combo on & off for 12months. I like it and although they are slated for being gash in mud, i dont seem to have that problem. They excell on slippy rock where the soft compound makes them very predictable. That said, they are very draggy in the 2.35 size i have but i dont usually ride on roads much where this makes much difference.
I am just speccing up a new bike and am going for a schwalbe Nobby Nick/racing ralph combo which Uncle barry recommended to me. He was the guy who suggested the kendas to me before everyone else jumped on the wagon so i trust his recommendations.
Cant see why you are having trouble getting them. Are there not bike shops in scotland? ;-)
Thanks for the info. I'll have a look at the schwalbe's. The problem with Scotland is that there are next to no Kenda dealers up here (3 in the whole country ferchristssake!).
If you give moore large a call on 01332 274200 and ask to speak to someone in accessorie sales they will try to give you your nearest dealers details!!!!
Hobo, i'm using the Ralphs/Nics combo and its great. Would disagree with Nick about the Ralph in mud and wet, its at least as good as a Verti, although its not a patch on mud specific tyres.
Have ridden nevegals for some time now, & the older kenda kinesis tyres before that. Nevegals are good (have both 2.1 and 2.35 size), the 2.35s give a massive air volume for a light tyre if that's what you like. IN terms of grip they are good, but nothing stunning compared with others. 8/10, could do better. I find the sidewalls prone to rips though, don't seem to be particularly tough.
Recently got a Maxxis Mobster for the rear & like it a lot, more than the nevegal.
The distributer had run out so Hollymill offered a refund or wait option. I waited, Hollymill kept me informed and I'm happy with the tyres.
Not really noticed the tyres since I fitted them so I guess they work well enough for my local trails in the peaks, and the man made stuff in Wales and GT.
