hello, sorry..another tyre thread.

I need some fat rubber (2.2/3ish) for the rear of my bike. Ride mostly rocks or muddy, wet rocks with occasional trips to rocky/muddy/leafy singletrack! Also need something lightish (around 700g if poss). Don't care how much really but preferably from CRC so I can order tommorow (payday!) and get it for the w/end. Currently using conti gravity pro which doenst like mud.. Suggestions please!?

I've just joined the Nobby Nic brigade & can't believe how well they behave. They do come up a tad small so you might wanna look for 2.4's - the 2.25's look more like 2.1's to give you an idea. Rode some pretty rooty stuff this weekend and they were better than anything else I've ridden.

Kendas - i think my mate bought blue groove fronnt and nevegal rear. he likes the blue groove but he seemed to have issues with punctures on the rear. whether it was just 'one of theose nights' or not i don't know but he got 3 punctures in one night.

You really do like schwalbe don't you Stevey ;) Any knowledge of the muddy mary's? I don't think there's much life left in me old trailrakers so they'll need replacing when it gets really s****y out there.

just swapped my kenda blue groove/nevegal`s 2.1`s for 2.35 panaracer rampages. Light (no more than 700g per tyre),grip well but seem less draggy than Kenda`a. Seem to clear mud well but have some trailrakers for the real gloop.

If money is no problem, do yourself a huge favour and get yourself some Schwalbe Fat Albert Lights; check out the spec, reasonably light for a reasonably wide tyre, comes up slightly small compared to other 2.35s, sticks like turd on a fleece in any conditions(pressure pending) and clears mud pretty well too.

Quite a bit heavier on a place it pays to keep reasonably light. I'd go tube and normal ORC type if I were you. They're a fantastic tyre, phenomenal grip!

after checking the state of my poor, pillaged bank account I've turned soft and got some cheapo conti vertical from wiggle : /

thanks for the advice though; will ask Mrs dan for a pair of fat alberts or nobby nics for xmas!

I've got both Nobby Nics and Fat Alberts on my mtbs and I find both tires grip really well in almost all conditions. The FA are a more general trail tire I'd say and the NN more racey. The only thing that is the NN's achilles heal I think is loose dry surfaces where it tends to wash out pretty quickly but when the conditions are damp or extreme muddy they grip like a turd on a pair of Nikes.
