Is the £175 worth it to upgrade my 20w halogen lamp unit to a 10w halide one?

yes, once you use halide you wont use halogen again

Agreed but bear in mind that with HID you'll have to pay out more for the bulb when it blows and you'll probably have to send it back to Lumicycle to get it replaced where as halogen you can just go to any DIY centre and get a new bulb. Personally the advantages far outweigh the dissadvantges with HID lights.

With the Lumi lamps you can actually change the lamp yourself when it goes pop. Don't throw it away though as it may have been the ballast unit that popped and you'll them have to buy one of those.
