Having recently purchased some 2nd hand Marzocchi Mx forks and fitted them yesterday, the steerer tube is some 50mm (give or take) longer than my previous forks.
I now have the option of either adding another bunch of spacers or cutting the steerer tube down by about 50mm.
I'm guessing that if i add 50mm of spacers the bars will sit to high thus i am considering cutting the steerer down by about 100mm. Is this a good idea? any other options?
I would leave it as it is but play around with putting the spacers above and below the bars until you find the righ height for you then cut off the steerer just enough that you don't need the spacers above the bars when you are sure you have the correct position . You could leave 1 spacer on top just in case you may need some more adjustment at a later date. If your steerer is 50mm longer than the forks that were previously on the bike why do you want to cut 100mm off them ?
