I am doing the Penrith Merida in May and want to know if anyone can recommend a pair of shorts with a thick comfy pad in. Usually i wear two pairs of padded shorts but wouldnt mind paying out for a decent pair that will do the job. Cheers
If you don't want to pay Assos or Rapha prices, then Pearl Izumi and Giordana do some decent shorts. You can get their bibshorts or 3/4's for about £50-£60. Both dead comfy and well made.
Have to say the Assos F1 Mille are the comfiest shorts I have ever owned but also the most expensive. But slightly cheaper are the Sugio shorts which are also really comfy look good and keep you a little cooler IMHO.
I was asking the same question a month or so back. Assos seem to be the way to go...a mate of mine had just got some, but we're undecided if they're worth 2-3 times what we pay for Lusso...i've a pair of the newest Lusso and the pad is very good.
We did a 107 mile ride the other week and everyone's bum (assos or lusso) was sore...so hey. :)
Thanks for all the info people, at the moment i am using a pair of Lusso and a pair of baggies(with pad) over the top. I did a 72 mile flat ride the other week with the woollybacks and from the midway point onwards it got very uncomfortable.
i thought about putting a car washing sponge down there but thought that would just be stupid.
I am riding the merida with the woollybacks so say hi if you spot us, quite a few out of the club is riding, lets hope for good weather.
For any decent length ride some decent bibshorts are the way to go IMO. I've some baggies with a Sugoi liner and whilst it's pretty comfy, any more than a 4 hours riding leaves me a bit sore. I've some Gore and some Pearl Izumi bibs and both are much more comfortable for long days or road rides when you're sat down almost constantly.
