I recently got a Nokia N95 smartphone and need to find a suitable handlebar mounted holder so I can use it for GPS while out riding. Wondering if anyone had any suggestions?
lol, well I do have insurance for it! And yeah, I've got a hard clear case for it so I could bodge it on... Just wondering if anyone knew of any good holders on the market. Not too keen on bodging it with zipties etc tbh!
Yeah Mike, I didn't pay 600, thats the retail. I got it for £160 on my contract :-D
Mad mole, thanks for that, have you got a link to an example of one? I can only find brodit mounts that certainly do not look waterproof or possible to bike mount! Thanks

Cool, that looks pretty good mad mole. One thing though, can you confirm if the actual internal width is really 5.2cm wide, because my damn phone is 5.3cm!! Are the sides at all flexible?
Frichie, Yup! Its an incredible phone, although it shouldn't really be called a phone or even smartphone. Its a genius phone! The WiFi is pretty useful for during boring lectures at uni ;-) And with this ViewRanger application its a full-on GPS for offroad use. Gotta reccommend Viewranger, their customer service is fantastic - even at 10PM I got email replies within a few minutes!
Dimensions are exactly as speced. The sides are semi rigid. My orange is a very tight squeeze. You may get it in if the phone is not the full thickness, but the sides will only bow out by bringing the corners in
Where are you based? do you go to Swinley? maybe try mine
Wow, well your phone's spec says the width is 58mm and about the same thickness as mine. So mine at 53mm wide should be fine I'm guessing! Thanks for the offer to try it out, but I'm only ever at Swinley for Gorrick races. Think I'll just order it and hope for the best!
If yours is thinner then it should fit. Mine is pretty well rammed in. Box comes with foam to go behind to pad it out if its a loose fit and the front is a flexble film so you can still use the touchscreen. Sound is good through the membrane
Box is pretty tough. Would have to be a very hard crash to damage the contents and on my bike the bar ends are larger than the phone so protect it.
I run Memory map from 2 GB SD card, with 1:25, 1:50k and aeriel photos. Cheap £40 bluetooh GPS sits in the camelback. System seems to work fine for around 12 hours use (MM still tracks GPS when screen off), and can still take photos and phone calls while running
Bit of a delayed update... I got one of those Boxit cases - looked pretty good, other than the clamp didn't fit round the oversized part of my bars (but that wasn't a problem, just used a ziptie round it rather than the bolt!) Problem came when it wasn't tall enough to have the slider of my Nokia N95 open inside the case without half the screen being abliterated by the lid! And, as the gps is in the slider under the keys it has to be open to recieve good signal! So went on my first ride with a track I'd loaded, and proceeded to get lost because the signal kept cutting off!!
So, anyone know of any other cases that will fit my N95 while open? (height of 130mm, 5 1/8th inches)
Thats a shame. Fortunately the Orange SPV doesnt open or do anything line that. Could you not use the base and clamp of the boxit and make up a larger lid or top.
