I need help in buying a mountain bike for mainly X/C Ive got a budget of £300. The bikes ive found already are :-

Specialized Hardrock Sport 07
Mongoose Tyax Elite 07
GT Avalanche 3.0 disc 07

Whats the opinion on the above bikes?? Any other bikes to check out??

GT has pretty much the same frame as the top end GT's. Spesh are V nice.

Test ride each and see what you thing

Just get out and ride....oh, and get the one with the best fork

Ok, seriously: the GT - I think you get better components for your money - also main thing with buying at this price break is avoid cable disks - theyjust dont work properly

Some do Dylan. Remember about giving advice to Newbies - Keep it in context and accurate please.

Cable discs mean disc ready wheels and frames meaning later upgrades are easier.

I didn't mind Shimano cable discs TBH, if looked after they were pretty good and reliable.
