Following a trip to Morzine, my passion for riding has been rekindled. So I have decided to finally invest in a new bike. At the moment I ride a Specialised Hardrock. I want to go for a longish travel full sus, I ride in the south at Swinley etc. But I want to start riding downhill as well in Wales and Scotland, and it will be nice to have a bike capable of riding in Morzine in the likely event of me going again next year.
At the moment top of my list is a Commencal Supreme 6, I rode one while I was in France and it seemed fairly civilised going uphill and extremely quick coming down. I am worried though that it may be too heavy or slow for most of the riding I will do. Would I be better going for something with less travel/weight or both?
It will be overkill for Swinley and places frankly, but if you're prepared to push a bit harder on the hills it'll be ok, and it'll come into it's own in Wales/Scotland/the Alps etc.
..or look at something more all-mountainy like a Spesh SX trail, Patriot, Reign/reignX , cannondale prophet MX etc. Just to plug Giants once more...mine comes in at about 32lbs now (could be made lighter) yet I know a DHer who used one for racing for quite some time (with Boxxers up front!). All of the above bikes can be built up lighter enough for all day riding yet strong enough for most DH imo..
No thanks, i rode on of those while I was in Morzine as well, and hated it. It may have been because it was a hire bike and therefor had a hard life, or it may have been because it was shit.
