I need to replace the BB on my bike as its a powerspline and its shot to pieces. Apparently I've done well as I've done over 800 miles with it......
My LBS has suggested an LX Chainset fully fitted for £79.99 as from what I've read on the internet I don't want to replace it with another powerspline as it's shite!!!
Is this a good deal, or could I buy it cheap from the net and get it fitted by my LBS. (I wouldn't know how much I'll get charged that way.)
£79.99 for a LX (Assuming it's HT2)chainset fitted is not a bad price TBH. IIRC you can pick one up from Wiggle for £60. They are really easy to fit yourself should you have the correct tools though.
If by 'powerspline' you mean Shimano Splined (BB model no.'s begin ES) then your economic answer is to replace the existing one with an ES71 XT BB. Only £25 from CRC, a doddle to fit & mine's got a couple of thousand miles on it and it's still going strong.
Ooo-errr....powerspline - non standard kit eeeeeeeeeeeekkkk!!! Dyl's square taper XT is cheapest most reliable solution or XT Bottom Braket with Deore square cranks.
I say get the LBS fitted LX HTII for £80, its £70 to buy from CRC anyway (could'nt find LX on wiggle) so its only an extra £10 for fitting and maybe that includes facing your frame too
I personally couldn't even find a XT square taper cranks for sale, only thing is a M442 "Mega9" shimano chainset from wiggle for £40 + £25 for your BB so not that much cheaper ....
