I will be looking at purchasing some discs soon myself so im interested.
I have only ever had 2 disc brakes before, a hope at the front 4 pot and that was great and a shimano rear which hadnt even bedded in before the bike got nicked!
they look good, but quite expensive compared to shimano's, out of interest why have you chosen to spec them up?
I just bought a set of these and they are the absolute mutts nuts. They come with the fluid already in, all you have to do is bolt them on. It took me about 10 minutes to set each one up (probably because I'd had a couple of light ales): there's a really nice slot on the calliper so that you can centre them up on the disc without farting about with loads of little shims. All the bolts are titanium (apart from the ones holding the disc to the hub, but I'm not going to whinge about that), and it looks like the pistons inside the levers are Ti as well. There's a little lever on the piston which you can use to adjust the bite point, and they are SO light! I've gone for a 200mm disc on the front and a 180mm disc on the back, but from what I've read about these I'm a bit worried I've got too much power. I'm off to Thetford Forest on Friday or Saturday to get them bedded in, and then I'll be off to Coed y Brenin on the 18th to test them properly!
I currently run Hope Minis on my Santa Cruz Chameleon, and think they are shite! Really I would prefer some HS33s! I have put goodridge sintered pads in, bedded them in properly, and they just dont bite. My mate runs deore discs and are 10 times better.
Heard a lot of good things about Formula, so think I mite ebay the minis off and invest.
I agree Nick: I've just taken Hope Mini's off my bike - they were really ropey in comparison! I ran them for about 5 years, with steadily decreasing performance. I had to buy a couple of kits from EBC so I could run big discs on them as they kept overheating - and I only weigh in at about 12/13 stone. It was a really fiddly job to change the pads, and they were often either too spongey or too hard no matter how many times I bled them or changed the pads.
