As title.........been looking for a jacket to use on and off the bike. Since the summer weather is Scotland has been so wet. Got about £60 to spend. Opinions please :) Ive looked at various ones so far including the raceface sky juice, gill pro speed, gill freedom, endura covert etc.
What makes it difficult is that you want it for on and off the bike, The gill jackets are bike specific cut, so if you dont mind walking around with a tail, no pockets and reflective trim, it should be fine
I tried a Nevis (in a shop, not in anger) recently and thought it seemed a bit thick and boil-in-the-baggish. Ended up getting an Endura Superlight and I love it. Very light, nice and breathable for non-Gore and packs down small. It's £80 or thereabouts but I got it on a Wiggle special a couple of months back and ended up paying £60.
I have the Nevis, but I only use it late Autumn to early spring, I use a lightweight shower proof over the summer. The Nevis has been great, water proof but still plenty breathable to, I usually wear it with a base layer and a tee shirt, that's long sleeved if its really cold. I was lead to it by one of the bike mags that rated it very highly.
Got a Altura Nevis at christmas time. Its been through an absolute torrential ride in which it coped (Just), but then a wetsuit would have coped that night. I was out yesterday in a snowfall and it was fine. For the money i am happy with it and havent had to use the pit zips for extra breathing so far so they arent boil in the bag.
Only thing i have noticed is that i need a better base layer. My previous top was fleece lined so it was still warm even if it got overpowered by the rain. This one has little thermal properties imo so needs a better base layer
I picked up a Regetta Xert for £35, Yellow good Hi Vis used it a stack of times as it's cool / not sweaty at all really, water beads on the top doesn't even soak in the top layer still, really impressed, and way under your budget.
Packs down small, Map Pocket, 2 arm pit huge zips.
