Which carbon bars are they?

I used Bontrager Race X Lite Carbon ones, which were good as they covered the end of the bar rather than merely clamping onto it, much wider clamping area. They're not in line with Eastons 'guidelines' but then something like Smica ones which are, are far more likely to damage carbon bars IME.

 FWIW, Easton bars will crack with anything, Ritchey ones are excellent.

There is a document that says I need to install some BERPS Bar End Reinforcment PlugS but I have not been able to find any...

 iv got ritchy carbon bars and they have  alloy inserts in the ends.  im using  titec pluto carbon bar end witch titec say are fine with carbon bars £34.99 from crc

Thanks for the experience Dave, I have manged to order some BERPS (Bar End Reinforcememt PlugS) from my LBS hopefully this will help things..
