I need to get new tyres for my Slayer as my Cinders are now considerably worse for wear. They grip really well but find that they don't clear mud that well and tend to be a bit sluggish.
I ride xc & trail around North Downs Way so have mixed terrain to cover. I've looked at Maxxis High Rollers or Ignitors, Bontrager Jones ACX, Kenda Nevegal or Blue Groove & IRC Mythos.
I have also read about people having different tyres on front and rear, how much difference does this make?
Kenda kinetics 2.35 are the best for mixed terrain.
Nevegals good on the back too, not always the best on the front. It's the same but the other way round for the blue groove, it's a front tyre that's best in dry to damp conditions, not great in mud though.
I ride the Kent end of the North Downs a fair bit & have been using Nobby Nics all year. Since it started getting wetter I've tried some Bonty Mud X's on the hardtail & so far they've been excellent. Roll well, amazing grip & they don't get out of their depth in mud & cack.
The Cinders 2.25's dont really leave that much mud clearence so had thought about getting 2.1's. I ride an 04 Slayer, mainly around Aylesford/Maidstone/Medway part of Kent.
Enduro's are great, but they come up huge, 2.3 is a 2.4 really.
Vapors are a good tyre, fast rolling handle everything pretty well ( to small for me )
Verti's are similar size to your Cinders.
If your thinking winter and want a Mud ish ( not the best mud tyre ) / All round tyre, look at the Spesh Storm 2.0's, they'll come up like a 2.1, handle mud okay and everything else and a good rolling speed.
I have just bought 2.3 Conti Verticals, impressed with them so far as a decent all round tyre, they are also no where near the width of most 2.3's, comparing them to my brothers 2.1 fire xc's they are about the same width!
Adamski, look at the height of the Verti's they sit alot taller so give a nice comfortable but fast ride.
Personally, I was running the Spesh Resulation 2.3 rear ( fit a 2.1 if cause there big ), fast rolling do it all, and a Spesh Enduro 2.3 Front, great combo not let me down once on anything.
Have panaracers on at the mo but not very impressed with the mud clearing on them, they tend to clag up quickly so really looking for something that clears better.
Clagging verses clearing is a funny one - when I lived in East Anglia whatever you ran would clog up, so you went for grip. Where I am now (Chilterns) tyre clearance is more of an issue - I run a Conti Slash on the rear, but a lot of guys round here run Trailrakers - good UK winter tyres without being a complete mud-specific tyre.
