Im looking to replace my useless 100mm Duke XC's with something a little better! I understand my Inbred can take a 5 inch fork, what do people recommend?
I had to use my old 120mm blacks as a temporary measure when my pilots died, but the bike was completely transformed into a real barnstormer and they stayed on for over 18 months, the reba's @ 115mm which I replaced them with are exactly the same axle to crown-race as the blacks so the geometry remains unchanged.
I found that forks of this length really suit the inbred, and no detriment to climbing or nimbleness.
XC600's do look very nice, although would the taller Marz not put the Geometry out?
I currently have a Recon 351 coil on my Trance, I may switch forks to figure out which travel I would like, would probably prefer air fork to keep weight down.
Yeah, try the recon on the 'bred, and all reba's are air either pre set travel 80/100/115 adjustable internally (lightest) or air u-turn 80-115mm, and a 115mm reba lighter than 115mm revelation.
XC 600 didn't get a good review other week in mbr, wasn't bad, but did have a few issues.
I've an Inbred built as an SS and I've tried it with rigid 440mm forks, 100mm travel Reba's and 130mm Revelations.
I must say that 130mm is too much - even though Brant reckons it's fine. Too wandery on anything other than the flat. 100mm feels good, but it will definitely be OK with a bit more. I reckon our man may be right in that 115mm Reba's will be spot on.
FWIW I'd only ever have RockShox forks (well, at the mo) as they are the best of the bunch by a mile IMO until the competition pull their socks up.
I have just been out on both the Trance and the Inbred, totally different I know, but aimed them square at the kerb and have to say with the Recon on the Trance it took, the admittadly small hit, in its stride. However the Duke was less composed and out on the trail I only seem to get 80mm travel max with the fork set to the recommended pressure.
The coil u-turn Recon may be the best bet set to around 110-115mm then?
I had a coil Revelation on mine and rode it round at set to 130 all the time - great combination for trail riding and could be wound down for the climb's.
Frame was sold to get a Stiffee and the fork's been sitting on the side while I get round to eBaying it - pm me if you're interested?
