what are peoples opinions on these bikes? i am interested in getting one for the commuter bike soon. The other option is the Boardman Comp Hybrid. I know these two bikes are very different but the boardman is the sensible option and the langster is the 'i-really-like-that-bike-and-maybe-this-is-the-excuse-to-get-one' bike.
what do people think about the langster and would you recommend it?
PS I will be using it in SS mode, not fixie cos i'm not a pervert.
Langster is a good bike. I wouldn't ride one even if you gave it to me. Not worrying what bike snobs think is one thing, riding a Langster is way beyond my snigger threshold....
Alu is a good thing - the Paddy Wagon and Pompino both weigh quite a lot. For a commuter, though, I'd be tempted to go with something that you can more readily fit mudguards/wide tyres to, which means not a Langster, ace fun though they are.
Not sure why you've disregarded SS for commuting; hills I guess? I've commuted SS before it was great (even the hills), one of the most fun bikes I've ever had, and it made me fast! I miss it still. Flat bar SS with 700 wheels is a fantastic way to commute. I just wouldn't ride a Langster, 'cause too many people I know wouldn't talk to me anymore. It's a fierce world out there in the land of SS and fixed riding: there are a lot of rules, but rule one if NO LANGSTERS!
You'd get some better advice is you could give a bit more information about your commute, ie. distance, luggage, terrain, change of shoes, mudguards, etc.
Personally unless you have a monster hill to contend with I'd ride SS.
