i am wanting to get rid of my car and am thinking about a Fabia VRs but my concerns are that i might not be able to fit my bike in the rear. I dont like using racks so the bike has to go in the back. My curent car is a Focus Mk1 and i can get my bike (and a mates too) in the back with by only removing the front wheel. I have found from the Parkers website that the Fabia is 20cm shorter than the Focus and this concerns me slightly.

Will i be able to get the bikes in the Fabia in the same way or will it be a case of removing both wheels? I know i could get an Octavia or other bigger car but they wont be as much fun as the Fabia VRs.

Any views will be greatfully received.

Cheers

IIRC it is based on the Polo chasis, therefore will be notibly smaller than your Focus.  However, a few years ago I had a 206 Gti (similar size to Fabia/Polo) and a HT went into the boot without too much trouble.

fit a towbar to it and get a ball mounted rack

If it aint broke, don't fix it, just rip it apart and see how it works! AKA Andy wrote (see)

but i dont want the hassle of having to mount a rack twice a week to load the bike up to go riding.

is that by removing the one wheel or two?

Yeh I like the way you can get 2 bikes (front wheel removed) into my car (Golf), much safer I think. I got a saris bones but find it's not that good for a  full sus. Going for £50 if anyone wants it.

Just the front wheel.

Get down the nearest dealership with your bike and test it in real life.

There's nothing worse than taking someone's word for it that you'll fit a bike in/on your new car - and then finding out once you've got it that it isn't the case.

I've just had this experience when a respected towing firm quoted me for a non-existant towbar on my new Prelude, only to discover their error after I'd bought it.

Now it's both wheels, saddle and pedals off to get ONE bike in the boot.

I've fitted three bikes in a Clio; with only their back wheels removed! Tis an artform..

That reminds me of when we in the Sates a couple of years back.  At the trail head carpark doing pre-ride fettling and a guy rode up on his full sus.  Stopped by his car, (which looked like an oversized Mondeo saloon) opened the boot and litterally posted his whole bike, in perfect built up state into the boot!  Wheels an-all!  Shut the boot lid then drove off.

the rack i have takes literally a second to mount on the tow ball (It also fits detachable tow balls) if you don't want to have a visible tow bar,,  with the  added bonus you can borrow a trailer for a trip to the tip...
