I am new to this lark and so far I am just going on canel path rides and dirt tracking. At the weekend I take my little boy out who is three on the back of the bike and he loves it. However he has just got his own bike and I want to encourage him on it but am worried about him getting tired. I have seen these tow bars that look good, but will they work for a 16" little boys bike? Has any the members got experience of these things, are they any good? Thanks.
Yup, I used to sell them. The owners found that very young child couldn't keep up with the pedals beyond walking pace, got bored, fell aspleep and fell off. I stopped selling them. Check out the kiddy back tandems at sjscycles.com, my son was good for 40km at three.

Funnily enough that is exactly the reason I have been reluctant to use the one that we were given (although I didn't know that actually has happened...thanks for the info John). I always let my oldest son ride as long as he can and when he gets tired I simply ride one handed and push him along with me.
Some owners rig up safety rails on kiddy-back tandems but I found I could feel him go "floppy" when he started to doze and stopped. The nearest we've got to disaster was when I grabbed a handful of brakes while he was riding no handed down a fast hill - that taught him! We (or should I say "I") dropped the thing on wet cobbles in Paris but we both landed on our feet.
