Just been checking the bike over before my ride tomorrow and noticed my 971 chain is ready for replacement.  Just looking at the Merlin website before I visit them in the morning and see the 991 is £18.95 and the 971 is £15.95

Whats the difference and which should I go for?

971, stronger-n-cheaper.

Maybe get Dan along to help fit it if your in a rush though.

The 991 has a special coating which helps it shift better (allegedly).  I tried one last year but didn't notice any real difference so went back to the 971 this time.

Mind you, there's usually a bigger price difference than that so you might wanna try the posh one.

Right, I go for the 971 as I have had trouble free use in the past.

I'm planning on picking one up on route to the trails.  I wonder if they will clean the sh!tty gunk off it for me?
