Myles is due to go to high school this time and he has not been offered any of our three choices.
The school he has been allocated is 5 miles from home (our first choice is 800m) which would be two buses away. We cannot submit an appeal based on geography alone. However, according to OfSted the school is failing badly and I cannot sleep for the fear that he may have to go there. I could type all night about why he should not go there.
However, his appeal must be based on why the school we want him to attend is better. NOT why we don't want him to go to the school offered. He has dyslexia (why is that so hard to spell?) and I plan to appeal on the grounds that his needs are such that the local school can offer him what he needs to learn and develop.
However, I'd love any help the BM collective may be able to offer in this time of need!!!
Actually, would anyone like to school him in their home?
I think Dylan's got some spare time?!
The appeals process seems to differ from area to area if what I've heard from friends is true. I think his Dyslexia is a good starting point but in the current political climate the issues of driving him to school & childcare issues may help.
If he has been officially diagnosed as dyslexic then they have to make allowances in entrance exams. IIRC the Disability Discrimination Act extends to include 'learning difficulties'?
Hmm, fair point Nobby. An admin girl at work has dyslexia and the DDA has just forked out for a laptop and software to allow her to do her job. Maybe an avenue worth exploring.
Cheer Matty. I'll keep you in mind. Anyone offer anything else?
I have a repertoire of animal noises and impressions I could teach him, they're quite impressive TBH, don't take my word for it, everyone says I'm like a modern day urban Tarzan.
I do a particularly good impressions of sharks, dogs, cats, turtles, piranhas, wolves, horses, pigs, wild boars, meerkatz, you get the jist. Basically if I put my mind to it I can imitate any animal, if you were to close your eyes you'd think said animals were in the room.
