...My bike is pretty, not niche or exotic, just nice shiny colours that complement each other very well.
It came with red forks which looked very nice but weren't too hot (2001 Judy SL) so i swapped them in about 2003 for some Duke SL's (again in red) which are starting to show their age and struggle somewhat with my 16st of lard.
The bike is a Trek 8000 (based on 80mm travel) although i run U-Turn forks which gives me a bit more tunability if i have a nice downhill bit in front of me. As i'm very tall, even running the front at 100mm on the flat or uphill makes the front very light and prone to lifting (unavoidable when you run a 400mm seatpost at the limit in a big frame).
I want some new forks (and would lean towards RS Revelation U-Turns) but (and here's the gay/girly bit) i want them in Red!!! It seems now that unless you want black or silver forks these days they do not seem to have the colour choice they once did?
Do Rockshox (or anyone else) do different colours in different countries or is it just back to the days of the Model T Ford - 'Available in any colour as long as it's black' ?
I suppose i could get a set painted but that seems like a lot of faff and uneccessary expense. I know i shouldn't care what it all looks like but i do. I have loads of ugly/normal bikes and i want to keep this one pretty.
I have some Magura's on my singlespeed and have never been impressed by the build quality (first set replaced and second set not wonderful either - great customer service though) or performance but they are noticably stiffer than my Dukes (05 Magura Asgard).
Plus i really like U-Turn. Do Magura have a similar system? SIDs are too flexy for me and Argyles are a bit too beefy for an XC bike.
I take it RS don't do a painting option?
I know i'm being a tart but hey, if we were all honest we'd all admit that part of what makes us want/buy a bike is how it looks.
Wondered if you'd pop up!! I e-mailed you about Sunday at the Wyre. I'd go on the hardtail if i could be bothered to change the semi slick tyres it's wearing at the moment. Perfect for a lovely 20 mile jaunt down the canal last night.
Don't forget that painting forks invalidates the warranty for some reason. Magura do some cracking forks these days and they are pretty cheap considering the opposition.
