I'm making the move from the trail-covered beauty of Mid Wales to the centre of Worcester in the next few weeks. I'm looking to change my frame and possibly forks, from the FS frame and RC41 fighters I have now, to a hardtail frame and rigid forks (my summer will mainly consist of riding between pubs!)
I want to keep as much money as possible in the bank for the first month or so until I get myself on my feet, so I'm looking for a small (14" - 16"max) frame, that's nice and light, and cheap(ish) too. I'll also be looking for some nice rigid (carbon) forks to plug into the front of it.
I'm not a heavy rider and the bike won't be subjected to much abuse (I'll save that for the new FS bike I'll buy at the end of the year!), so material isnt overly important. I prefer my bikes to be on the small side, rather than stretched-out XC rigs. Also, the lighter the better!
I've seen a few I like:
On one Scandal (may be a bit stretched out though and smallest size is 16")
Cove Handjob
Maxlight (the one with the carbon seatstays)
Viper (again, carbon seatstays)
Viper Scandium
Cotic Soul (bit expensive )
Or there is a nice Kona Explosif frame in the classifieds on here for £250.
Any more suggestions? I know I've missed out LOADS of options so feel free to suggest some, thanks!
Everyone I know that has bought a Maxlight have raved about how they are the best riding budget hardtail frame out there. I think I will build up a Maxlight 120 frame next year.
Yeah those Rock Lobsters look pretty good. I want to try to get away from an all-aluminium frame if I can though - once you've ridden one you've ridden them all (with the exception of the Cove Stiffee, which just kicks ass but it's too expensive )
